BEIJING, Jan. 24 (Xinhua) -- Electricity consumption of east China's Jiangsu Province reached 848.7 billion kilowatt-hours (kWh) in 2024, marking the first time the figure has surpassed 800 billion, according to recent data from State Grid Jiangsu Electric Power Co., Ltd.
The figure also saw a year-on-year increase of 8.4 percent, showing the resilience, vitality and potential of the province's booming economy.
In 2024, power consumption by the province's manufacturers of electric vehicles, lithium batteries and photovoltaic products increased by 12.5 percent, 20.1 percent and 7.4 percent year on year, respectively.
A representative with a local lithium cell maker introduced that the company's power usage in 2024 totaled 69 million kWh, up 16 percent from the previous year.
Hosting more than 3,100 enterprises above designated size in the field of new energy vehicles, the province also sees integrated development of relevant industries.
Data shows that the power consumption of Jiangsu's intelligent in-car facilities sector soared 3 times year on year in 2024, while that of the auto parts and chip manufacturers increased 18.4 percent and 10.8 percent, respectively.
Ten years ago, green power consumption accounted for about 11.5 percent of Jiangsu's total power use. The proportion had increased to 23.2 percent by the end of 2024, laying a solid foundation for the green and low-carbon transformation of the province.
Other specific sectors in Jiangsu including high-tech foreign trade, accommodation, catering, retail, data service and Internet service also witnessed growth in power consumption during the year of 2024. (Edited by Yu Huichen with Xinhua Silk Road, yuhuichen@xinhua.org)
