Spanning about five kilometers, the road is both known for its lush natural landscape and the history of an old battlefield.
In the midst of towering mountains and tranquil rivers, Jiudaowan is also an orchard area, with trees of various fruits, including peaches, apricots, apples and pears, making it a paradise away from hustle and bustle.
In terms of its historical ruins, it is said to be the ancient battlefield of the Battle of Maling, between the State of Qi and the State of Wei, during China's Warring States period (475 B.C.-221 B.C.). The ancient scene can still be imaged with the remains of the old fortress, city gates and the beacon towers. Besides, a naturally-formed huge stone, covering an area of 1,500 square meters, is known as the Arrow's Eye Stone for its shape of two abreast triangular holes. Local people links the unique-shaped stone with the history of the battle, making connections between the present and the past.
