BEIJING, Aug. 27 (Xinhua) -- Lianyungang Port in Lianyungang City, east China's Jiangsu Province, has ramped up efforts to accelerate the construction of shore power facilities as it plans to build itself into a green port.
As early as in 2010, Jiangsu Province worked with State Grid Lianyungang Power Supply Company to build the country's first high-voltage vessel-used shore power facility. Up to date, a total of 16 sets of high-voltage shore power facilities have been installed at the port, covering 69 berths.
Li Wei, director of the marketing department of State Grid Lianyungang Power Supply Company, introduced that the electrician on the ship only carries out one-button operation to realize automatic ship-shore grid connection, automatic load transfer, automatic cut-off of generator power, and uninterrupted and stable shore power supply.
Instead of turning to diesel engines to generate electricity in the past, shore power allows ships to connect to the electricity grid while at port, which can significantly save the cost of fuel used previously, said Chen Gang, general manager of Jiangsu Xinhang Electric Co., Ltd.
