BEIJING, Aug. 14 (Xinhua) -- Zero-carbon summer travel is in full swing in Taining County of Sanming City, southeast China's Fujian Province.
In recent years, Taining County has launched a series of innovative actions such as zero-carbon transportation, zero-carbon accommodation, and zero-carbon catering to protect its lucid waters and lush mountains and strive to create a zero-carbon tourism business card.
A month before the summer vacation this year, the local pure electric cruise ship that truly realizes zero pollution and zero emissions was put into operation on the Dajin lake of Taining County.
It is learned that the cruise ship has two round trips a day and each trip can carry 120 tourists. Compared with fuel-powered ships with equivlant loading capaity, it can reduce carbon dioxide emissions by 82,500 tons per year.
Besides, Jinjiang International Resort Hotel, located in the Dajin Lake Scenic Area, is the first demonstration hotel in Fujian Province that adopts microgrid technology to realize the application of green energy.
At present, the hotel is accelerating the construction of an energy efficiency improvement system amid its efforts to continuously provide clean and low-carbon living experience for tourists during their trips.
Wang Jianping, director of the development department of Taining Power Supply Company of State Grid Fujian Electric Power Co., Ltd., introduced that the Jinjiang International Resort Hotel’s energy efficiency improvement system is a microgrid project that integrates photovoltaic power generation, power storage and charging. According to Wang, the project can not only use photovoltaic panels to generate electricity, but also store energy to continuously provide green electricity for the hotel.
In addition, about 229 homestays in Taining have been fully booked since late July. The zero-carbon tourism boom has also created a new economic model for the county. In July, the county's green electricity consumption by the tourism sector hit a new record high, up 32.5 percent year on year, of which 528,000 tons of carbon dioxide emissions were effectively reduced through electricity substitution.
Chen Ningzhang, deputy director of tourism management committee of Taining County, said that centered on tourism development elements such as food, accommodation, transportation, travel, shopping, and entertainment, Taining is making greater efforts to build a low-carbon and zero-carbon tourism brand.
