BEIJING, April 8 (Xinhua) -- 1,594 twenty-foot equivalent unit (TEU) containers were transported by the China-Vietnam freight trains in the first quarter of this year, marking a year-on-year surge of 82 percent, according to China Railway Nanning Group Co., Ltd.
In March, the cargo shipped by China-Vietnam cross-border freight train for rapid customs clearance exceeded 900 TEUs, setting a new record for monthly dispatch volume.
Since this year, the freight train service has added new export goods such as electric power towers, and has seen a significant increase in the export of chemical products, fiberboard, and other goods.
An increasing variety of products from south China's Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, including soft drinks, beer, and auto parts, are being sold to Vietnam via the freight train service. Currently, there are more than 620 types of goods imported and exported through the Pingxiang port.
At present, the transportation time for the freight train from Nanning South Station in China to Yen Vien Station in Vietnam has been stabilized at around 16 hours, effectively reducing logistics costs.
The China-Vietnam cross-border freight train for rapid customs clearance offers stable transportation route, efficient logistics services, and preferential pricing policies, which can help products enter overseas markets more quickly, said Yang Bo, logistics director of Guangxi Bangda Tianyuan International Freight Co., Ltd.
This year, the company is expected to send an average of five container freight trains per month from Nanning International Railway Port to Vietnam, which is a tenfold increase compared to the same period last year.
