MILAN, Jan 4 (Class Editori) — The Civil Aviation Administration of China (CAAC) revealed today at a conference that China is aiming to obtain the C919 passenger aircraft certification to operate in Europe and compete with Boeing and Airbus models of the same segment.
The CAAC will increase its efforts to work with the European Union Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) in order to enable its “domestic passenger aircraft to fly abroad”.
The C919 has been commercially operating in China since last May and has only received certification from China’s regulatory authority.
Manufactured by the state-owned Commercial Aircraft Corporation of China (COMAC), the C919 was designed to compete with the Boeing 737 and the Airbus A320.
Key components for the C919 are supplied by a number of foreign companies. Its engine is manufactured by CFM International, a joint venture between US GE Aerospace and French Safran Aircraft Engines.
On Tuesday, Shanghai-based China Eastern Airlines announced that it had received its fourth C919 aircraft.
