BEIJING, Nov. 24 (Xinhua) -- Hunan, a province sitting in central China, has been pouring efforts into crafting a "model program", namely the "3 zones + 3 halls" demonstration program, to spearhead construction of its new type of power system.
"3 zones + 3 halls" refers to the Changsha Orange Isle demo zone, Changsha airport economic demo zone, Xiangjiang science city demo zone, Hunan new type of power system demo hall, Changsha Orange Isle zero-carbon experience hall and Xiangjiang science city exhibition hall.
As a vital part of the "3 zones + 3 halls" demo program, Changsha airport economic demo zone that used to operate with electricity supply via special transformers and related facilities developed by developers of the zone faced problems hindering its green and low-carbon transition such as relatively high energy consumption.
Turning eyes to the digital and smart management platform for regional low-carbon development, State Grid Hunan Electric Power Co., Ltd., a local power grid operator in Hunan Province, helped the Changsha airport economic demo zone explore coordinated development of clean energy with a new mode highlighting jointly shared responsibilities and benefits.
Under the mode, comprehensive energy services are provided and integrated management of resources are realized to help Changsha airport economic zone demonstrate energy saving and carbon emission reduction-oriented development. With 400-plus sets of sensors in operation, related data is sent to the digital and smart management platform every 15 minutes, which explicitly presents the operating conditions of electrical equipment in the zone and reduces related power use costs by about 25 percent.
"Since the operation of the digital and smart management platform for regional low-carbon development, we can view our electricity consumption data at a glance and the remote meter reading and online fee payment help us save a lot of costs," said Li Minqiang, who takes charge of electrical work with Sunward Intelligent Equipment Co., Ltd. on November 23 when workers of State Grid Hunan Electric Power diagnosed the energy efficiency in the Changsha airport economic zone.
Moreover, clean energy projects such as distributed PV and biomass power stations with a total installed capacity of over 150 MW are planned to be built in the zone. Construction of such facilities including the energy storage systems in the power supply range of transformers, integrated power stations composed of PV power generation systems, energy storage equipment and charging facilities, mobile energy storage vehicles, and other facilities in the zone will also be boosted together with creation of a carbon management center to apply classified load management for the zone.
By 2025, the proportion of green electricity is likely to be raised to 50 percent in the zone and related carbon emission reduction may amount up to one million tonnes. (Edited by Duan Jing with Xinhua Silk Road, duanjing@xinhua.org)
