Added value of Beijing's digital economy up 8.3 pct in first three quarters

Abstract : Beijing saw the added value of its digital economy reach 1.406 trillion yuan in the first three quarters of this year, up 8.3 percent year on year, and accounting for 44.3 percent of its GDP, said Jiang Guangzhi, director of Beijing Municipal Bureau of Economy and Information Technology, at a press conference on Thursday.

BEIJING, Nov. 24 (Xinhua) -- Beijing saw the added value of its digital economy reach 1.406 trillion yuan in the first three quarters of this year, up 8.3 percent year on year, and accounting for 44.3 percent of its GDP, said Jiang Guangzhi, director of Beijing Municipal Bureau of Economy and Information Technology, at a press conference on Thursday.

Among them, the added value of the core industries of the digital economy reached 822.67 billion yuan, with an increase of 10.6 percent, Jiang added.

Beijing is also promoting the construction of a smart city, driving deep integration of information technology and urban infrastructure. 

By the end of the third quarter, Beijing had built a total of 104,000 5G base stations, with 27,000 new ones added within this year. The cumulative number of gigabit fixed network users reached 2.007 million, with an addition of 663,000 users within this year.

Beijing now has 103 enterprises that have completed the construction of intelligent factories and digital workshops, with production efficiency increasing by more than 10 percent. The city also supports 551 specialized and innovative enterprises to significantly enhance their level of digitization.

In the next step, Beijing will accelerate the improvement of digital economic governance capabilities, formulate related regulations and policies, and strengthen the establishment of facilitation systems for digital cross-border flows, said Jiang.
