BEIJING, April 11 (Xinhua) -- In the first quarter of 2023, the number of China-Europe freight trains, including those destined for central Asian countries, passing through the Alashankou and Horgos railway ports in northwest China's Xinjiang saw considerable increase with higher shipment volume, Xinjiang Daily reported Monday, citing data from China Railway Urumqi Bureau Group Co., Ltd.

Xinjiang's Alashankou Port handled 1,588 China-Europe freight train trips in the first quarter, with the shipment volume of about 3.33 million tonnes, up 10.35 percent and 23.8 percent year on year respectively.

Since 2023, Xinjiang's foreign trade volume has increased steadily. The local railway authorities have increased input in improving transport capacity and optimized transport organization which achieved a steady increase in the number and shipment volume of freight trains in the first quarter.
