BEIJING, Feb. 14 (Xinhua) -- A train loaded with 1,616 tonnes of potash fertilizers from the Bruzgi checkpoint of Belarus arrived at the Horgos port in northwest China's Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region on Monday, Chinanews.com reported.
The potash fertilizers worth about 4.6 million yuan are expected to arrive in southwest China's Chongqing in five days, and then be distributed to markets across the country for spring cultivation.
It is important to prepare fertilizers for spring plowing for the time being. Priority has been given by the Horgos Customs to the inspection of trains carrying imported agricultural inputs for spring farming. As a result, the average time for customs clearance of the trains is reduced by about an hour, ensuring the imports can quickly enter domestic markets, according to Gu Xiaoliang, deputy chief of the No.3 inspection department of Horgos Customs.
In January, 89,000 tonnes of potash fertilizers produced in Belarus and other countries were imported to domestic markets including Chongqing and Jiangsu through the Horgos port, helping boost spring crop yields, according to Horgos Customs. (Edited by Su Dan with Xinhua Silk Road, sudan@xinhua.org)
