BEIJING, Feb. 10 (Xinhua) -- China's production and sales of new energy vehicles (NEVs) is likely to maintain a rapid growth in 2023, according to a projection made public by the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) on Wednesday.
In 2022, China sold 6.887 million NEVs, topping the world for eight consecutive years, data from the MIIT showed.
The country's sales of NEVs last year accounted for 25.6 percent of the total sales of new vehicles, fulfilling the goal for 2025 proposed in the national NEV industry development plan for the 2021-2035 period ahead of schedule.
China has made great efforts to develop NEVs in recent years, as they are the main direction for the transformation and upgrading of global automobile industry, and also an important path for China to reduce carbon dioxide emissions and achieve high-quality industrial development, according to an official in charge of the No. 1 equipment industry department of the MIIT.
Great achievements have been made. China has mastered core technologies of battery, motor, and electric control, and established a full-chain industrial system covering basic materials, parts, and manufacturing equipment, the official said. (Edited by Su Dan with Xinhua Silk Road, sudan@xinhua.org)
