BEIJING, Dec.28 (Xinhua)— China Economic Information Service and China Waterborne Transport Research Institute launched the World-class Ports Evaluation Indicators (WPEI) (2022)in Beijing on Dec. 28.
According to the evaluation indicators, the overall performance of Asian and European ports is rather good. Singapore Port and Shanghai Port continued to take the lead among the ports around the world, and the ports of Rotterdam, Zhoushan (Ningbo), Busan, Antwerp, Shenzhen, Qingdao, Hongkong, and Hamburg stood among the world-class ports rank.
Qingdao Port, the dark horse of this edition of evaluation, reached annual cargo throughput of 630 million tonnes in 2021, ranking the fourth among the world’s ports. It completed container volume of 23.71 million TEUs in 2021, reaching the top among ports in Northeast Asia and the sixth in the world.
The World-class Ports Evaluation Indicators (WPEI)(2022) was jointly compiled by the China Economic Information Service and the China Waterborne Transport Research Institute. The evaluation selects 29 sample ports from three dimensions, such as port type, geographical space, and functions of service, which cover the major regions of the world. The highest score of the evaluation is 90.3 points, with an increase of 3.9 points from the previous year. The average score is 62.0 points, increasing 1.0 point from the previous year.
