MAPUTO, Nov. 14 (Xinhua) -- China National Petroleum Corporation(CNPC), China's largest oil and gas producer, announced that Coral South Floating Liquefied Natural Gas (FLNG) joint-stock project in Mozambique, has witnessed the export of its first cargo of LNG, which marks the beginning of Mozambique's presence as a producer and exporter of LNG at the global market.
The first LNG export also kicked off the project's full-swing operation.
The project is jointly built and operated by Italian, Chinese, American, Mozambique, Portuguese and South Korean companies, of which CNPC holds a 20 percent interests.
Coral South FLNG, the world's first ultra-deep-sea floating LNG project as well as the first floating LNG project in Africa, is designed with a drilling depth of more than 2,000 meters.
Dai Houliang, chairman of CNPC, said that the project is the largest overseas monomer investment project of the company. As an important achievement of China-Mozambique energy cooperation, the successful commissioning of the project will effectively drive the sustainable development of local economy and society, and is of great significance to promoting China-Africa energy cooperation and construction of Belt and Road.
It is learned during the 60-month construction period, the project team of CNPC has overcome multiple tests and technical difficulties At present, CNPC is actively working with partners to promote the next step of construction and development.
