BEIJING, Oct. 27 (Xinhua) -- China remained the world's leading shipbuilder in the first three quarters of this year, as its market share ranked first globally in completion volume of ships and new and holding orders, the Xinhua-run Shanghai Securities News reported.
China's completion volume of ships reached 27.8 million deadweight tonnes (dwt) from January to September, accounting for 45.9 percent of the world’s total, data from the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology showed.
New shipbuilding orders, a major indicator of the shipbuilding industry, amounted to 32.45 million dwt in the first nine months of this year, taking up 53.6 percent of the global market share.
By the end of September, China's shipbuilding holding orders surged 11 percent year on year to 102.56 million dwt, with a global market share reaching 48 percent, the ministry said.
