Guala Closures to open a new plant in Chengdu

August 26, 2022

Abstract : The new plant will occupy 13,800 square meters, will employ 110 workers and an investment plan that could reach 200 million renminbi (29 million euros)

MILAN, Aug 25 (Class Editori) — Guala Closures Group —global leader in producing bottle closures for liquors, wines, water, drinks and oil with 30 plants in five continents— signed an agreement to open a new plant in Chengdu, in the Chinese province of Sichuan.

The factory and the R&D center, located in an area best known for the production of baijiu, China’s traditional liquor, will focus on the production of bottle closures for premium and luxury markets, with an estimated production of 130 million caps per year. This would make the Chengdu plant a global-level production site created specifically for the Chinese market.

The new plant will occupy 13,800 square meters, will have 110 employees and an investment plan that could reach 200 million renminbi (29 million euros).

The investment is proof of Guala Closures’ commitment in the territorial development of the liquor sector and the support of its clients in China, where the Group has been working for over 20 years through Beijing’s plant.

The Chinese spirits market now accounts for a quarter of the global market. It is the largest and fastest growing segment worldwide, also considering the rising income level of Chinese consumers. The domestic market in China amounts to 175 billion euros and consists largely of liquor, with baijiu accounting for as much as 65% of the overall share.

"The new plant in Chengdu is fully in line with our strategy, which aims at a high degree of internationalization of our operations and a strong collaboration with local authorities to ensure maximum market presence and proximity to customers. As far as the luxury segment is concerned, globally the sector is characterized on the one hand by great fragmentation and on the other by a growing market demand for high-end products with attention to detail.

For these reasons, the investment in the Chengdu plant demonstrates our historical trust in the Chinese market and our commitment to maintain our leadership position in the luxury closures sector, a segment that will grow strongly in the upcoming years, especially in the Asian region," Gabriele Del Torchio, President and CEO of Guala Closures, stated.
