BEIJING, June 28 (Xinhua) -- China's nuclear power generation posted stable growth in the first five months of this year, the Xinhua-run Shanghai Securities News reported on Monday.
Nuclear power generation rose 4.5 percent year on year to 166.3 billion kilowatt-hours in the first five months of this year.
From the January-May period, the country's nuclear power generation accounted for 5.1 percent of the country's total power generation.
Zhang Tingke, secretary general of the China Nuclear Energy Association, attributed the steady growth of China's nuclear power generation to three key favorable factors: an increasing number of nuclear power generating units, a raft of supporting measures and stable nuclear fuel supplies in the country.
By now, as much as 54 nuclear power generating units were put into operation in the Chinese mainland, with a total installed capacity of 55.81 million kilowatts, ranking third in the world. (Edited by Yang Yifan with Xinhua Silk Road, yangyifan@xinhua.org)
