BEIJING, June 24 (Xinhua) -- China will accelerate the construction of intelligent information infrastructure, according to Xiao Yaqing, Minister of Industry and Information Technology at the 6th World Intelligence Congress held on Friday in north China's Tianjin municipality.
Efforts will be made to promote the building of 5G network and gigabit optical fiber network, improve the layout of new infrastructure such as industrial Internet, data centers and Internet of Things, and deploy supercomputing centers.
So far, China has built around 1.7 million 5G base stations and cultivated 150 large-scale industrial internet platforms connecting with more than 78 million units of industrial equipment, the minister said.
He noted that China has made progress in developing artificial intelligence (AI) in recent years. Currently, the value of AI core sectors in the country has exceeded 400 billion yuan, with the number of relevant enterprises surpassing 3,000.
AI is integrating with many fields such as manufacturing, transportation, healthcare, and people's livelihood at a faster pace, creating new business formats, models and new markets and effectively promoting the digital and smart transformation of all walks of life, stated Xiao.
The minister also stressed the need to cultivate intelligent products and services, and press ahead intelligent transformation of the manufacturing industry. (Edited by Su Dan with Xinhua Silk Road, sudan@xinhua.org)
