XIAMEN, June 6 (Xinhua) -- A Russia-bounded China-Europe freight train carrying goods transferred from Kaohsiung in China's Taiwan departed from Xiamen on June 4, marking the launch of a brand new sea-rail combined transportation route linking Taiwan, Xiamen and St. Petersburg, reported Fujian Daily Monday.
It is learned the goods were shipped from Kaohsiung to Xiamen in east China's Fujian province by sea previously and it is estimated that the sea-rail combined transportation way shortens nearly half of the logistics time compared with normal marine shipping.
Relying on the policy advantages of container cargo transiting of Xiamen Port, the city continues to expand the scale of sea-rail combined transportation and promotes the deep integration of industries on both sides of Taiwan strait.
Initiated in August 2015, Xiamen's China-Europe freight train service has handled a total of 1,147 trains by the end of May, with a cumulative cargo value of 27.711 billion yuan, of which commodities worthwhile over 1 billion yuan were carried by sea-rail combined transportation.
