CHENGDU, May 10 (Xinhua) -- A new air freight service connecting Chengdu, the capital of southwest China's Sichuan Province, and Brussels in Belgium was launched Monday to meet the growing aviation logistics demand of China-Europe cross-border e-commerce.

On Monday evening, an all-freighter flight undertook by the Belgian International Air Services left Chengdu Shuangliu International Airport for Brussels, carrying more than 130 tonnes of cargo. It arrived at the final destination Tuesday.

The cargo included mechanical equipment, electronics, and e-commerce parcels and will be delivered to customers in Europe via trucks and connecting flights.

Three flights will fly on the route per week in May. The flights will be increased to six a week gradually.

The new air route is expected to help enhance Chengdu's international cargo route network. In the first quarter of this year, Chengdu Shuangliu International Airport witnessed a substantial increase in its international cargo and mail throughput, said the airport's operator.

Currently, the airport has 15 regular international air freight routes. In 2021 alone, five new international air cargo routes were launched, linking Chengdu to London, Amsterdam, and other foreign cities.
