MILAN, Apr 26 (Class Editori) — Sparkle and AzerTelecom, Azerbaijan's leading wholesale operator, signed a memorandum of understanding to establish cooperation as part of the "Digital Silk Way" project, which aims to create a digital telecommunications corridor between Europe and Asia through Azerbaijan.
The Digital Silk Way project —which was selected as one of the top five strategic infrastructure projects in Asia at the Global Strategic Infrastructure Leadership Forum in 2020— was launched by NEQSOL Holding and implemented by AzerTelecom to develop information technology and the digital ecosystem in Azerbaijan and to transform the country into a digital hub for the region.
According to the agreement —signed on the sidelines of Capacity Middle East 2022, a global telecommunications event— the parties agreed to evaluate new business opportunities and study the feasibility of jointly establishing and managing a new end-to-end transmission capacity corridor between Central Asia and Europe, also relying on Sparkle's existing infrastructure extending from Turkey to Italy to all major European hubs.
