BEIJING, April 19 (Xinhua) -- A freight train of China-Laos Railway departed from the Lao station of Vangvieng arrived on Monday at Chengdu International Railway Port in Chengdu, southwest China's Sichuan Province, marking the completion of the first freight train trip from Vangvieng to Chengdu, reported Chinanews.com.
The train carries 20 open-top containers loaded with goods such as chemicals and zinc concentrate, supplying local enterprises in Sichuan with raw materials. As one of the important Lao stations along the China-Laos Railway route, the Vangvieng station now serves as a second departure station beyond Vientiane, making shipment from Laos to Chengdu more convenient and effective, according to a representative from a Sichuan-based company.
The Vangvieng station will provide customers in the region with accurate services, striving to further promote bilateral trade between China and Laos, expand the connections between Chengdu and Southeast Asia through multimodal transportation, and support the city's participation in the Belt and Road Initiative, according to Wang Weikun, deputy general manager of Chengdu International Railway Service Co., Ltd.
