BEIJING, April 14 (Xinhua) -- Xi'an, capital of northwest China's Shaanxi Province, also known as Chang'an in ancient times, launched a new China-Europe freight train route (Xi'an-Poti-Constanta-Mannheim) on Wednesday.
Loaded with 42 containers of sports equipment, garment and bedding, the Chang'an China-Europe freight train departed from Xi'an for Mannheim, Germany, passing a total length of 11,300 kilometers through Kazakhstan, Azerbaijan, Romania, Hungary, Slovakia and the Czech Republic.
The new route is designated to traverse countries and regions where previous China-Europe freight trains rarely pass, providing opportunities for domestic and foreign companies to tap into new markets of international trade, according to Yuan Xiaojun, general manager of Xi'an Free Trade Port Construction and Operation Co., Ltd.
Xi'an launched its first China-Europe freight train in November 2013. Currently, there are 16 Chang'an China-Europe freight train routes running on a regular basis, covering 45 countries and regions involving in the Belt and Road Initiative. In the first quarter of this year, 790 Chang'an train trips were made, ranking the first among China-Europe freight train services in China. (Edited by Su Dan with Xinhua Silk Road, sudan@xinhua.org)
