Germany's Federal Employment Agency fell some 22 billion euros (24.8 million dollars) into debt during the second year of the coronavirus pandemic, a spokesperson for the agency said on Monday.
The federal government will cover about 17 billion euros of the total with a subsidy.
The Federal Employment Agency spent most of the sum on supporting furlough schemes, which were greatly expanded during the pandemic.
The debt is nevertheless still smaller than that from 2020, when the agency was left owing 27.3 billion euros.
