MILAN, Dec. 29 (Class Editori) — The Italian Region of Veneto fosters relations with China. Luca Zaia, President of Veneto, met Liu Kan, Consul General of the People's Republic of China (PRC), at Palazzo Balbi, seat of the Veneto Regional Council.
The meeting focused on trade-related topics of common interest both to Veneto and China, with which consolidated institutional, commercial, economic and cultural relations endure. In detail, the first relations with the Hebei Province date back to almost 40 years ago, with the protocol signed in 1988 officially sanctioning them.
In addition, over the years formal relations have started with an increasing number of territories, including the Jiangsu Province, the Special Administrative Region of Hong Kong and the Municipality of Chongqing. Moreover, the Region of Veneto is a founding member of the Italy China Foundation, created with the aim of promoting economic and cultural relations between the two countries at all levels.
Zaia and Liu talked about trade relations, growth and development prospects for the region’s companies, exports, tourist flows, relations between universities and, more generally, mutual growth opportunities.
In an interview with MF-Milano Finanza after his appointment, the Consul General underlined that northern Italy represents "the economic engine of the country." In this context, China aims for an ever-growing collaboration with this area of Italy, also in view of the Olympic handover between Beijing and Milano-Cortina.
