The first physical conference since the beginning of the pandemic in China aimed to jointly analyze main Chinese trends of interest for Italy and to coordinate the activities of the diplomatic consular network in 2022.
In economic terms, great results have been reached concerning export to China in the first ten months of 2021, with a steady 28.3% growth compared to the same period of 2020, namely +20% on pre-pandemic 2019 levels, and with 12.81-billion-euro goods and services exported from Italy.
The diplomatic and consular network will continue to cooperate in order to provide the utmost assistance to compatriots, in a period still strongly marked by the pandemic. One of the main objectives which Italian institutions will continue to pursue is strengthened connections, and in particular the increase in direct air routes between Italy and China. In addition, 2022 will be the year of the Beijing Winter Olympics and the Italy-China Year of Culture and Tourism. Therefore, the diplomatic and consular network will focus on organizing large-scale cultural events as well as on promoting an effective Olympic handover from Beijing to Milano-Cortina 2026.
The Italian Ambassador Ferrari underlined “the profound importance of teamwork in order to reach the set objectives. The pandemic has forced us to face new and different challenges and all Italian institutional representatives in China have shown great professionalism and flexibility. Today's meeting allowed us to outline the roadmap for 2022, in order to consolidate the important results achieved this year and to set up a rich calendar of initiatives to enhance Italian cultural and linguistic wealth”.
