MILAN, Nov. 12 (Class Editori) -- Italian Ambassador to China Luca Ferrari decisively commented on the issue of flights between Italy and China. "Mobility between the two countries is a priority in the Government agenda and has been discussed during all the recent meetings with Chinese authorities," the Ambassador said while in Beijing, "we are aware that a single direct route per week is not enough to satisfy Chinese and Italian passengers' demand".
From last October 28, in fact, the private airline Neos, owned by Alpitour Group, resumed the weekly service with departures scheduled on Thursdays from Milan Malpensa to Tianjin, after the airport was closed to international flights due to COVID-19 outbreaks.
Ferrari confirmed that the Italian Embassy is perfectly willing to assist all airlines that are interested in increasing air traffic between the two countries, and that it continues to urge Chinese companies to resume routes to Italy.
Moreover, in view of the strong demand, the Italian Embassy has reached an agreement with Neos to ensure that on each flight there will be tickets exclusively reserved for Italian citizens. The airline will cooperate with travel agencies affiliated with the Welcome Travel Group network. Users can purchase tickets on the website www.neosair.it or contact with the nearest Welcome Travel agency, at least fifteen days before the scheduled departure date.
"It is a step forward in the right direction," the Ambassador pointed out, "we are satisfied with the agreement reached with Neos to guarantee Italian citizens seats on every flight to Tianjin, a deal that adds to Neos' one with the China-Italy Chamber of Commerce. Although it is a completely private company and therefore purely geared to commerce, Neos, which already cooperated with the Embassy for the humanitarian air bridge last year, has proved that it understands the current needs — particularly concerning mobility — of Italian citizens living and working in China".
