MILAN, Sept. 13 (Class Editori) -- FAW, the leading Chinese car manufacturer with around 4 million vehicles sold in the PRC and part of the Fortune 100 list with a 90-billion-dollar worth turnover, and Silk EV, US company specialized in car engineering and design, unveiled the project of the new Silk-FAW headquarters based near Reggio Emilia during Milan Design Week.
The production plant, which will be surrounded by 17 hectares of private and public greenery, will be specialized in several models, as S9 Hypercar, and will include a research center, a design lab, a hotel, a restaurant and a conference room.
The green field surface, where the first building site has already been started, covers 347,000 square meters and the production site 114,000. The carbon-neutral facility near Mediopadana high-speed train station will include an assembly line (car and propulsion system) for a hundred units of the luxury hybrid S9 Hypercar per year, and a full-cycle platform for the production of a few thousand electric S5, S3 and S7 SUVs.
More than 1,000 trees and nearly 1,400 shrubs will be planted in the area of the new factory. Silk-FAW also plans to build a hotel with 80 rooms, a restaurant and a conference room. A total of 1,150 parking spaces are planned, 700 of which will be private and 450 public. The two companies confirmed the investment of more than one billion euros (1.3 billion is the new estimate).
The capital is Sino-US, but the management will be entrusted to experienced executives who have worked in the Motor Valley, including Walter de Silva, former Head of Design for Alfa Romeo, Amedeo Felisa, former CEO of Ferrari, Roberto Fedeli, with a past of great technical responsibility in Ferrari as well as in Alfa, and Katia Bassi, Silk-FAW's Managing Director with experience in Lamborghini and Ferrari.
The car exhibited inside Spazio Quattrocento of Opificio 31 in Milan — which for now is marked only by the initials of the project, S9, while waiting for a final name — will be on sale from 2023 and will cost almost 2 million euros. It will boast 1,400 combined horsepower, with a max speed of over 400 kilometers per hour and an acceleration of 0-100 kilometers in 1.9 seconds, which is a real record. In Italy Silk-FAW cars will not use the Chinese brand Honqgi, under which they will be sold on the Asian market, but a whole new brand, which will be revealed soon.
