Chinese firm starts imparting skills to young Zambians to boost productivity

October 13, 2021

Abstract : A Chinese-owned firm has started training young Zambians with various skills aimed at improving productivity, an official said on Tuesday.

LUSAKA, Oct. 12 (Xinhua) -- A Chinese-owned firm has started training young Zambians with various skills aimed at improving productivity, an official said on Tuesday.

CAMCO Group, involved in agriculture equipment, has come up with a college aimed at creating a pool of qualified technicians.

Li Tie, Chairperson of the company, said during an inaugural graduation ceremony of technicians trained in the repair of tractors in Lusaka, the country's capital, that the training will help young people repair various machinery either as employees or as self-employed technicians.

Meanwhile, Minister of Technology and Science Felix Mutati said the mechanization of the country's agriculture has not been impressive due to lack of critical skills to enable increased productivity.

The Zambian minister, who officiated at the event, commended the Chinese firm for coming up with a training program that will create employment opportunities and entrepreneurship.

According to him, there was a need for an integrated approach between the government, industry and academia to ensure increased productivity.

The minister added that the government will channel the Skills Development Fund to youths so that they could acquire necessary skills. Enditem
