BEIJING, Sept. 23 (Xinhua) – Production and sales of commercial vehicles in China declined in August from last month, data from China Association of Automobile Manufactures (CAAM) showed recently.
In August, the production and sales of commercial vehicles dropped 27.5 percent and 20.9 percent month-on-month, 46.2 percent and 42.8 percent year-on-year to 229,000 and 247,000 units respectively, according to CAAM.
Compared to July this year, the production and sales decline widened by 13 percentage points and 12.6 percentage points respectively.
The association attributed August's decline to overseas auto chip shortage, which rattled domestic manufacturers.
Despite chip shortage, the cumulative production and sales of cars this year climbed slightly from the same period in 2019. Auto exports also rose steadily in August, with monthly exports hitting a record high.
In particular, new energy vehicle production and sales in August both exceeded 300,000 units for the first time. The production of new energy passenger vehicles is expected to reach 330,000 units in September, increasing by 10 percent month-on-month, according to Industrial Securities.
