Huawei kicks off "Seeds for Future" program in Bangladesh for ICT talents

Abstract : China's telecommunication giant Huawei has launched its "Seeds for the Future 2021 Bangladesh", for the seventh year to inspire the local ICT talents.

DHAKA, Sept. 14 (Xinhua) -- China's telecommunication giant Huawei has launched its "Seeds for the Future 2021 Bangladesh", for the seventh year to inspire the local ICT talents.

The announcement came through a virtual inauguration on Monday.

"Seeds for the Future" is Huawei's flagship CSR (Corporate social responsibility) program dedicated to top STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) worldwide and is meant for developing local talent, enhancing knowledge transfer, and promoting a greater understanding and interest in the ICT sector.

First launched in Bangladesh in 2014, this program has been nurturing talents for longer than 10 years in the global scene.

Bangladeshi Minister of State for Information and Communication Technology Division Zunaid Ahmed Palak attended the virtual inauguration ceremony as the chief guest.

Md Rafiqul Islam Sheikh, vice-chancellor of Rajshahi University of Engineering and Technology, Muhammad Fazli Ilahi, vice-chancellor of Ahsanullah University of Engineering and Technology, and George Lin, president of Enterprise Business Group, Huawei Technologies (Bangladesh) Limited, also joined the event with other officials.

Palak said at this occasion, "I have been observing Huawei's Seeds for the Future program for quite some time. I must say that this kind of initiative has been contributing a lot to not only in equipping our youth with future-fit ICT skills but also in developing an ecosystem for nurturing ICT talents in the industry."

Lin said, "The youth are our future. In upcoming years, we will be heavily reliant on ICT skills. Keeping that in mind, Huawei has designed this program so that we can help the nation materialize 'Digital Bangladesh' dream by facilitating the youth with necessary skills and leadership qualities, leveraging Huawei technical expertise and experience in the ICT industry."

In his keynote, Mohammad Rubaiyat Tanvir Hossain, head of EEE (Department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering) in Chittagong University of Engineering and Technology, said, "This program has been at the center of attention as 'Seeds for the Future' has not only enabled the STEM students to enhance their ICT knowledge but also opened up new opportunities for them in the industry."

This year, students from different science and engineering universities will join the event and more talented students based on their academic record, knowledge and innovative thinking will be selected as the winner from Bangladesh.

Those students will be moved to the next step which will be a common platform for all winners of different countries.
