BEIJING, Sept. 6 (Xinhua) -- China's rail transit lines in the urban areas reported 1.79 billion passenger trips in August, up three percent year on year, the Xinhua-run Shanghai Securities News reported recently.
On a monthly basis, the volume declined by 380 million passenger trips or 18 percent, data from the Ministry of Transport showed.
According to the ministry, China had put 247 urban rail transit lines into operation in 48 cities as of August.
The total length of the country's rail transit networks in urban areas amounted to 7,970 km, the ministry said. (Edited by Yang Yifan with Xinhua Silk Road, yangyifan@xinhua.org)
