BEIJING, June 30 (Xinhua) -- China's services trade totaled 1.938 trillion yuan in the first five months of this year, up 3.7 percent year on year, the Xinhua-run Shanghai Securities News reported on Tuesday.
Services exports increased 20.1 percent year on year to 911.78 billion yuan, while imports amounted to 1.026 trillion yuan, down 7.5 percent from the same period of last year, said the Ministry of Commerce (MOC).
The services trade deficit stood at 114.49 billion yuan in the period, down 67.3 percent year on year.
The MOC data also showed China's trade of knowledge-intensive services maintained rapid expansion in the first five months, increasing 11 percent year on year to 898.99 billion yuan.
Exports of knowledge-intensive services surged 14.4 percent to 493.33 billion yuan, while imports grew 7.3 percent to 405.66 billion yuan.
However, China's tourism industry saw services trade reach 307.07 billion yuan during the period, down 36.9 percent year on year. (Edited by Yang Yifan with Xinhua Silk Road, yangyifan@xinhua.org)
