BEIJING, June 22 (Xinhua) -- North China's Shanxi Province ranked first in China in terms of growth rate of foreign trade in the first five months of this year, data from Taiyuan Customs showed.
The total import and export value spiked 110.3 percent to 90.46 billion yuan during the period , according to the data.
Exports soared to 56.11 billion yuan in value, registering a 125.8 percent increase over the same period last year, while import value totaled 34.35 billion yuan, a rise of 89 percent year on year.
It is learned that processing trade is the main mode of foreign trade in Shanxi Province. From January to May this year, import and export value of processing trade in the province stood at 58.22 billion yuan, an increase of 180.2 percent year on year.
Foreign-funded enterprises played a vital role in driving the province's foreign trade, contributing 51.97 billion yuan in the first five months, up 146 percent year on year.
