Foreign tourists entering Phuket through the "Phuket Sandbox" project must register in advance at the place of departure, receive vaccination and nucleic acid test, and submit their travel plans. After entering Phuket, they will be quarantined for 14 days, during which they will accept three nucleic acid tests.
General Prayut Chan-o-cha, Prime Minister and Minister of Defense, will review the project on site to facilitate its launch on July 1.
"The vaccination rate of all Phuket citizens must reach 70 percent (466,587 people), and the staff who have direct contact with tourists must reach 100 percent," said Minister Phiphat.
Currently, 93,211 citizens (20 percent) have been vaccinated, andabout 644,000 doses of the vaccine will be given in June.
The experimental area may be extended to Bangkok, Chonburi, Chiang Mai,Phetchaburi, Prachuap Khiri Khan, Krabi, Phang Nga, Surat Thani, and Buriram, which account for 75 percent of the national tourism revenue, from October to December, added Minister Phiphat.
Minister Phiphat will also propose to the Prime Minister to provide 500 billion baht loans to small business owners in the tourism industry to activate capital flows.
