MILAN, May 27(Class Editori) — Piaggio, driven by the rise in consumption in Asia and especially in China and in India, decided to launch its new electric scooter at the Beijing Motor China 2021, dedicated to new urban mobility. The new Piaggio One costs around 3,000 euros and should help the Pontedera-based company to further attract a young target.
During the first quarter of 2021, the sales of Piaggio scooters grew by 25% in India, from 1.1 million to 4 million units sold, and by70% in China, with a doubling in terms of items sold, from 300,000 to 600,000. In total, in Asia the Group’s turnover exceeded 150 million euros at the end of March.
Overall, the revenues of the Group, which is well-known for its everlasting Vespa, increased by23%,to 384 million, and its EBITDA by 40%.
Piaggio One represents a completely new generation of e-scooters and made its debut on the TikTok platform, aiming to convince the generation that will see the prevalence of electric mobility.
Light, easy to ride, elegantly essential, the scooter combines these features with the best of Italian technology, developed with the famous Vespa. The attempt of the Group led by Roberto Colaninno is to make the new two-wheeler the coolest means of commuting among new generations.
Its technological features include a digital colour instrument panel with a sensor to adapt the background and luminosity to ambient conditions, full LED lights, two motor maps and a keyless start system, thanks to which the scooter does not need the traditional key and starts with the remote control.
The new e-scooter is easy to drive thanks to a comfortable driving position, a low seat, a flat roomy footplate and practical and robust pull-out foot pegs for the passenger. It is the only e-scooter of its category with capacious under seat storage compartment.
Piaggio One will be available in several versions with varying power and torque outputs (motor scooter and motorcycle), and different ranges, all powered by lithium-ion batteries that can be easily removed and carried home or to the workplace for recharging.
