German energy group RWE has made a final investment decision on a multibillion-euro wind power project off Britain's North Sea coast, the company announced on Wednesday.
Total investment in the Sofia wind farm, RWE's largest offshore project worldwide, to be built on the Dogger Bank sandbank, is estimated at around 3 billion pounds (4.1 billion dollars).
RWE expects the farm to be finished by the fourth quarter of 2026.
The wind farm is expected to have a capacity of 1.4 gigawatts and will be able to meet the annual electricity needs of 1.2 million British households.
