BEIJING, March 22 (Xinhua) -- China will speed up the large-scale deployment of 5G network and make forward investment in 6G technology, according to Yang Xiaowei, deputy director of the Cyberspace Administration of China at a press briefing on last Friday.
China started 6G research and development (R&D) in 2019. In November of that year, the Ministry of Science and Technology and other five departments jointly established a 6G R&D promotion group and an expert team.
The country successfully launched its first 6G test satellite on November 6, 2020.
So far, many Chinese enterprises have engaged in 6G R&D, including ZTE, Huawei, UNISOC, Vivo and DTmobile.
Local governments also attach great importance to 6G R&D. For example, Beijing Municipal Bureau of Economy and Information Technology recently released a draft action plan for smart city development during the 14th Five-Year Plan period (2021-2025), proposing to make investment in 6G and other cutting-edge technologies.
5G network will be deployed at a large scale in China from 2020 to 2024 and get strengthened from 2025 to 2028. In 2029, 6G is likely to be introduced in China, said Yu Xiaohui, president of the China Academy of Information and Communications Technology.
