BEIJING, March 10 (Xinhua) -- China will take a series of measures to quicken the pace to achieve the peaking of carbon dioxide emissions and carbon neutrality, the Xinhua-run Shanghai Securities News reported on Tuesday.
According to the report, the National Energy Administration (NEA) will make solid efforts to accelerate the development and utilization of clean energy and upgrade energy consumption.
An official with the NEA noted that China is expected to set more aggressive goals for new energy development, actively exploit hydropower in accordance with local conditions, develop nuclear power under the premise of safety and further optimize and improve the construction of power grids.
At the same time, the country will move faster towards an energy-saving society, accelerate the application of low-carbon technologies, and improve the energy efficiency of key industries and fields, said the official.
In September 2020, China announced that it will strive to bring its carbon emissions to a peak before 2030 and become carbon-neutral before 2060. (Edited by Yang Yifan with Xinhua Silk Road, yangyifan@xinhua.org)
