BEIJING, March 9 (Xinhua) -- Sales of passenger cars in China last month surged by 371.9 percent compared with a year earlier, surpassing 1.17 million units, reported Shanghai Securities News Tuesday quoting data from an industry association.
The combined retail sales of passenger cars in January and February have recorded the highest year-on-year growth since 2005, increasing by 69.6 percent to about 3.34 million units, data from the China Passenger Car Association (CPCA) showed.
The association suggested that consumers from medium-and-small cities, counties and towns are the forces that drive China's auto market in the first two months of 2021. The market recovery after the country's seven-day Spring Festival holiday has been better than expected.
A highlight in the association's monthly report is the sales of new energy vehicles (NEVs). Last month, the new energy vehicle market saw a boom, with NEV retail sales standing at 97,000 units, 6.75 times that of last year, said the CPCA.
The wholesale volume of new energy passenger vehicles registered solid growth last month, soaring 640.2 percent year on year to about 100,000 units, CPCA data showed.
