BEIJING, March 9 (Xinhua) -- China is estimated to handle 870 million passenger trips nationwide during this year's Spring Festival travel rush, spanning from Jan. 28 to March 8 this year, down 40.8 percent from the 2020 Spring Festival travel rush, the Shanghai Securities News reported on Monday.
Due to Chinese people's postive response to the government's call to stay put during the Spring Festival holiday, China's passenger trips declined significantly this year.
Official data showed that passengers made 220 million railway trips during this year's Spring Festival travel rush, down 46.5 percent from the 2019 travel rush.
Road trips amounted to 600 million, a decline of 75.5 percent from the same period of 2019.
Trips via waterways plunged 69.8 percent from the 2019 travel rush to 15.34 million, and air trips decreased 51.1 percent to 35.37 million.
