BERLIN, March 3 (Xinhua) -- German TK Elevator would provide the new satellite concourse of Shenzhen Airport in China with 40 elevators, 38 escalators, 30 moving walks and two platform lifts, the company announced on Wednesday.
The customized systems for the X-shaped concourse included moving walks with rollers installed outside the step chain for easier maintenance and higher bearing strength, according to TK Elevator.
The German company already delivered elevators and escalators for Terminal 3 of Shenzhen Airport as well as for Beijing Daxing Airport.
"Our strong market position in China stems from our excellent services, as well as competitive and technically sophisticated mobility solutions," said Peter Walker, CEO of TK Elevator, adding that the concourse project was a "proof point of our strong reputation and growth strategy in the region."
The airport's satellite concourse, with building costs of around 1.5 billion U.S. dollars, is scheduled for completion in June and is expected to handle 22 million passengers a year. According to TK Elevator, maintenance work for the next two years was also part of the cooperation with Shenzhen Airport.
Despite the global COVID-19 crisis, TK Elevator reported sales above the prior-year level in the fiscal year 2019/2020, which ended last September. According to the company, the reason for the good results was "a positive development in North America and China." Enditem
