BEIJING, Jan. 7 (Xinhua) – The cargo throughput of Tianjin port in north China exceeded 800,000 TEUs in 2020, an increase of 40 percent year on year, hitting a record high, reported local newspaper recently.

A freight train carrying bicycles, furniture and hardware goods left Tianjin port for Almaty and Tashkent in Central Asia on December 28, marking that the throughput of Tianjin port railway-sea intermodal transport exceeded 800,000 TEUs.

Meanwhile, a sea-rail intermodal freight train loaded with imported machinery accessories and daily necessities arrived in Pinggu district in northeast Beijing on December 28, marking the official launch of the sea-rail intermodal freight service between Pinggu and Tianjin port.

The launch of the freight train services between Tianjin port and Pinggu district makes the Pinggu a the regional logistics hub for Tianjin Port in Beijing, expanding the transport function of Tianjin port to Beijing, Hebei and Inner Mongolia.

It is noted that Tianjin Port (Group) Co., Ltd, the freight train operator, will fully support the development of logistics in Beijing, vowing to use freight trains to create a new green transport mode that integrates automated container terminals, railway transport and new energy vehicles.
