BEIJING, Jan. 4 (Xinhua) -- The added value of China's patent-intensive industries in 2019 reached 11.46 trillion yuan, up seven percent year on year and accounting for 11.6 percent of the country's GDP, said a joint statement by the China National Intellectual Property Administration and the National Bureau of Statistics on last Thursday.
In 2019, the added value of manufacturing-related patent-intensive sectors took the largest share of 72.9 percent in the total. In breakdown, new equipment manufacturing segment had the added value of 3.40 trillion yuan, or 29.7 percent of that of all the patent-intensive sectors. It was followed by information, communications technology (ICT) manufacturing with an added value of 2.30 trillion yuan, accounting for 20.1 percent of the total. The added value of new material manufacturing, medical sector and environmental protection sector amounted to 1.40 trillion yuan, 997.43 billion yuan, 259.96 billion yuan respectively, accounting for 12.2 percent, 8.7 percent and 2.3 percent of the total.
In terms of growth rate, service-related patent-intensive sectors have developed rapidly. In 2019, the added value of ICT services increased by 17.2 percent, while that of research, development, design and technology services went up by 14.0 percent.
