China's Beibu Gulf Port records rise in cargo throughput

December 08, 2020

Abstract : Beibu Gulf Port in south China's Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region saw cargo throughput rise by 15.38 percent year on year to about 245 million tonnes in the first 11 months of 2020.

NANNING, Dec. 8 (Xinhua) -- Beibu Gulf Port in south China's Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region saw cargo throughput rise by 15.38 percent year on year to about 245 million tonnes in the first 11 months of 2020.

Nearly 4.85 million twenty-foot equivalent unit (TEU) containers were handled at the port during the period, up 30.02 percent year on year, according to the Beibu Gulf Port Group.

The port has witnessed robust growth amid the COVID-19 pandemic thanks to the accelerated construction of the New International Land-Sea Trade Corridor, a trade and logistics passage jointly built by western Chinese regions and Southeast Asian countries.

As an important transit location on the corridor and the closest seaport for inland Chinese provinces, the port saw a total of 4,133 train journeys on its land-sea freight route in the first 11 months of the year, an increase of 111 percent year on year.

The Beibu Gulf Port currently has 268 berths for commercial vessels. A total of 52 shipping routes link the gulf with many ports both at home and abroad, including major ASEAN ports, according to the company.  Enditem
