BEIJING, Nov. 6 (Xinhua) -- China's leisure agriculture industry was severely affected by the COVID-19 pandemic in the first half of the year. As the country has effectively contained the pandemic, it has seen a rapid recovery in the second half of the year.
Latest statistics from the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs showed that over 95 percent of the business entities in leisure agriculture have resumed work.
Leisure agriculture business entities include agricultural sightseeing and picking gardens, homestays, agricultural science and technology experience parks and so on.
At present, local flavors, traditional handicrafts and other folk cultural crafts have gradually become consumption hotspots. Agricultural relics, ethnic villages, ancient villages and towns have served as new must-go places. During the eight-day National Day and Mid-Autumn Festival holiday in October, 85 percent of tourists attended various rural cultural and leisure activities.
China's five-year plan on rural vitalization strategy (2018-2022) proposed that China should develop cultural industry with rural characteristic. According to statistics, China's rural leisure tourism received about 3.2 billion tourists in 2019 and generated 850 billion yuan worth of operating revenues, which directly created 12 million jobs.
