SHANGHAI, Oct. 8 (Xinhua) -- Shanghai received 8.83 million visits during the National Day Holiday from Oct. 1-8, bringing in tourism revenue of 13.5 billion yuan (about 2 billion U.S. dollars), said the municipal administration of culture and tourism Thursday.
The number of visits has bounced back to 75 percent of that during the same period last year and the total revenue from tourism has reached 80 percent of that of the corresponding period last year.
From Oct. 1-7, tourists arrived from outside Shanghai have spent 8.84 billion yuan, up 32.8 percent from the previous week.
Over 150 major scenic spots have received 8.6 million visits, up 4 percent year on year, although those tourist attractions were required to cap their visitor flows less than full capacity as an epidemic-control measure.
Meanwhile, the sales value of 437 large merchandising and commercial businesses across the city raked in nearly 12.4 billion yuan, up 13.7 percent year on year, according to the Shanghai Municipal Commission of Commerce. Enditem
