NANNING, Aug. 19 (Xinhua) -- South China's Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region will actively promote construction of the China-ASEAN Digital Trade Center, according to a plan released at the center promotion conference in Nanning, capital of Guangxi, on Tuesday.
According to the plan, the center will be constructed in two phases. In the first phase (2019-2021), 5 billion yuan (about 722.5 million U.S. dollars) will be invested and more than 4,000 enterprises are expected to settle in the center. In addition, more than five overseas warehouses, exhibition and trading centers will be built in ASEAN countries.
In the second phase (2022-2025), 20 billion yuan will be invested and more than 10,000 digital trade market entities are expected to gather in the center. Moreover, the center will strive to cultivate 10 enterprises each with a transaction volume of more than 1 billion yuan, and 100 enterprises each with a transaction volume of more than 100 million yuan.
Meanwhile, the center will build bases for gathering of the enterprises in the fields of digital trade, smart city, Internet culture, and intelligent logistics, and launch five digital trade service platforms involving commodity trading, digital trade big data, digital trade expo, digital trade education, and digital trade collaborative innovation.
It is worth noting that the center will also set up six digital trade industry chains including machinery and electronics, automobile, home building materials, light industry, agricultural and seafood, and cultural, sports and health industry.
China and ASEAN countries are highly complementary in the field of digital economy and have great potential for cooperation. In recent years, the digital economy cooperation between the two sides has become increasingly active. The physical operation of the China-ASEAN Digital Trade Center can better serve the economic and trade cooperation between the two sides, said Li Changguan, chairman of China Council for the Promotion of International Trade (CCPIT) Guangxi Committee.
Li said that Guangxi is currently actively developing digital economy. In the past five years, Guangxi has added approximately 1,500 digital economy companies annually.
Located in Nanning, the center is a digital economy development park integrating headquarters office, digital creativity, platform operation, big data, and the Internet of Things (IoT). It is also a key project for the construction of China-ASEAN Information Harbour. (Edited by Hu Pingchao with Xinhua Silk Road, hupingchao@xinhua.org)
