BEIJING, Aug. 11 (Xinhua) -- Hainan's Internet industry saw its business revenue grow 60 percent year on year to 49.8 billion yuan in the first half of this year, according to the industry and information technology bureau (IITB) of the island province in south China.
In the first half, Hainan's network technology service sector realized revenue of 39.7 billion yuan, surging 90 percent year on year and becoming the main engine driving the rapid development of the Internet industry in the province.The revenue of sharing economy, platform economy and game industry in Hainan reached 29.3 billion yuan in the first six months, accounting for nearly 60 percent of the business income of the province's Internet industry, data from IITB showed.
Industrial parks such as Hainan Resort Software Community (RSC) and Haikou Fuxing City Internet Information Industrial Park (Fuxing City) became important hubs for Hainan's Internet industry development.
During the January - June period, RSC saw the settle-down of 1,029 new enterprises, whose revenue reached 31.56 billion yuan. By the end of June, the total number of enterprises in the RSC had reached 5,862.
Fuxing City has seen more than 1,400 enterprises registered so far this year. In the first seven months, the revenue of enterprises in the Internet industrial park reached 17 billion yuan, said Ma Liang, deputy general manager of the park.
Fuxing City has basically formed an Internet industry ecological chain driven by leading Internet enterprises such as Alibaba, toutiao.com, iQIYI, and Ingkee, according to Ma.
With strong government support, Hainan's Internet industry has enjoyed sound development momentum in recent years. It has become the fastest growing industry among the 12 key industries of the province, with business revenue rising at 30 percent annually from 2016 to 2018.
