Abstract : Capital city Chengdu of southwest China's Sichuan Province has launched a three-year construction plan of new infrastructure, vowing to build 65,000 5G base stations and activate an infrastructure system featuring digital, network, and intelligence, reported Sichuan Daily Tuesday.

CHENGDU, July 15 (Xinhua) -- Chengdu, capital city of southwest China's Sichuan Province, has launched a three-year construction plan of new infrastructure, vowing to build 65,000 5G base stations and a digital, networked and intelligent infrastructure system, reported Sichuan Daily Tuesday.

The city pledges to speed up the construction of essential information networks integrating with 5G, big data, artificial intelligence (AI), industrial internet, and satellite internet.

Priority will be given to the transformation and upgrading of communication facilities, such as direct power supply to the central computer room, to achieve 5G construction.

Chengdu will encourage communications, urban construction, transportation, power, and other industries to build and share resources, promoting the layout of 5G base stations in the city, according to the local authority.

The city also strives to build a 5G pilot area to expand the commercial scale use of 5G. In the meantime, efforts will be taken to promote the innovative application of 5G technology in 10 major fields, such as intelligent manufacturing, transportation, and logistics.

In addition, Chengdu expects to develop smart transportation networks, intelligent energy networks, and science and technology industrial networks by 2022.
