S. China's Guangxi sees improved foreign trade in Jan.-May

Abstract : South China's Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region saw its foreign trade stand at 176.23 billion yuan in the first five months, down 8 percent year-on-year, representing 1.1 percentage points lower than the decline in the previous four months, according to Nanning Customs.

BEIJING, June 19 (Xinhua) -- South China's Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region saw its foreign trade stand at 176.23 billion yuan (about 24.87 billion U.S. dollars) in the first five months, down 8 percent year-on-year, representing 1.1 percentage points lower than the decline in the previous four months, according to Nanning Customs.

In terms of the trading partner, the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) remained the largest trading partner of the region during the period.

Statistics show that Guangxi's trade with the ASEAN amounted to 85.77 billion yuan in the first five months, down 6.2 percent year on year and accounting for 48.7 percent of the region's total foreign trade during the period.

Its trade with Hong Kong, China, and Australia amounted to 22.68 billion yuan and 6.42 billion yuan, respectively, up 19.1 percent and 6.8 percent year on year during the period.

In terms of imported commodities, Guangxi imported 15.2 billion yuan worth of agricultural products, an increase of 9 percent, and its imports of soybeans resumed growth. (Edited by Hu Pingchao with Xinhua Silk Road, hupingchao@xinhua.org)
